Disendorsements
This webpage is as it was on my website in 2016 except for formatting and embedding the links
This webpage contains a collection of links to statements from public individuals stating why they oppose Trump for president.
In my opinion, Trump is clearly not fit for any positions of power. The power he has wielded has mostly been ill gotten and abused. Documentation of my claim is in the extensive reporting on Trump’s life, enterprises, and public statements. The information that is available should be convincing. Donald Trump is a swindler, liar, cheater, sleaze, demagogue, willfully ignorant, bully,… The few positive qualities I can see in Trump is that he is a mover who can get things done. Similar to the fictional character Tony Soprano.
I cannot grasp why an intelligent, knowledgeable American person would chose to vote for Trump. So, assuming knowledgeable is the problem, I posted this webpage.
Note on You Tube ‘Transcript’ feature.
Some of the dis-endorsements had several news sources to choose from. In cases with links to videos, I tried to choose the You Tube version. I chose ‘You Tube’ because of the ‘Transcript’ feature. The feature is a scrolling transcript synchronized to the audio dialog. The transcript feature is accessed at the bottom of the ‘You Tube’ video screen by right clicking the ‘… More’ icon and selecting the drop down menu item ‘Transcript’. Note you can use the scrolling transcript both to browse and to jump to selected transcript phrases within the video.
USA TODAY’s Editorial Board: Trump is ‘unfit for the presidency’
Dont Vote for Donald Trump Editorial Board Editorials USA Today
Sep 30, 2016
If you read only one link on this ‘Trump Dis-Endorsements’ page, this should be it. An article, with sub-headings, detailing what is wrong, wrong, wrong with Trump.
“In the 34-year history of USA TODAY, the Editorial Board has never taken sides in the presidential race….This year, the choice isn’t between two capable major party nominees who happen to have significant ideological differences. This year, one of the candidates — Republican nominee Donald Trump — is, by unanimous consensus of the Editorial Board, unfit for the presidency.”

Wikipedia – Newspaper Endorsements in the United States Presidential Election, 2016
This Wikipedia link is useful for browsing the endorsements of the various media. To browse, click on newspaper to take you to footnotes; Click on the footnote link to take you to the newspapers endorsement.
The Wikipedia article has tables for: Daily Newspapers, Weekly Newspapers, Magazines, College and University magazines, and Foreign Newspapers.
Each of the tables has the column ‘2012 Endorsement’. As an example, the Daily Newspapers table shows that Mitt Romney got 86 endorsements and Trumps 8. Well, also ‘Not Mitt Romney ‘ got 0, and Not Donald Trump got 6.
Each of the tables has a summary of results. Below is the table summary of the summaries.
Summary of newspaper and magazine endorsements in the 2016 United States presidential election
Candidate | Daily | Weekly | Magazines | College | International | Total |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Hillary Clinton | 226 | 121 | 13 | 53 | 10 | 425 |
No endorsement | 55 | 12 | 0 | 4 | 0 | 70 |
Not Donald Trump | 6 | 1 | 4 | 3 | 4 | 18 |
Donald Trump | 8 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 11 |
Gary Johnson | 6 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 6 |
Evan McMullin | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
Not Hillary Clinton | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
I would feel better about the American public if the presidential polling results were more aligned to this table.
The summary of Foreign Newspapers is: 10 Clinton, 4 Not Donald. Poor Donald, this is evidence that the media conspiracy against him is international in scope … and, of course, directed by incompetent Hillary.
Wikipedia is both a great source of information and web link resource.
A Letter From G.O.P. National Security Officials Opposing Donald Trump
From <http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/08/08/us/politics/national-security-letter-trump.html>
“Dozens of the nation’s most senior Republican national security officials, many of them former top aides or cabinet members for President George W. Bush, have signed a letter saying they will not vote for Mr. Trump, the Republican nominee.”
“From a foreign policy perspective, Donald Trump is not qualified to be President and Commander-in-Chief. Indeed, we are convinced that he would be a dangerous President and would put at risk our country’s national security and well-being. Most fundamentally, Mr. Trump lacks the character, values, and experience to be President. He weakens U.S. moral authority as the leader of the free world. He appears to lack basic knowledge about and belief in the U.S. Constitution, U.S. laws, and U.S. institutions, including religious tolerance, freedom of the press, and an independent judiciary.”
Ken Burns Offers Blistering Takedown Of Donald Trump In Stanford Commencement Speech
From <http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/ken-burns-donald-trump_us_575daa58e4b0ced23ca85aa4>
Ken Burns (born July 29, 1953) is an American filmmaker, known for his style of using archival footage and photographs in documentary films. His documentaries include The Civil War (1990), Baseball (1994), Jazz (2001), The War (2007), The National Parks: America’s Best Idea (2009), and Prohibition (2011). Consequently, he is well qualified as a American history expert. (Ken Burns <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Burns>).
The Huffington Post link has the full Stanford commencement video and a link to the transcription. The Trump section of the video starts at 01:20:00. The Trump section of the transcriptions starts with ‘For 216 years, our..’. A well founded dis of Trump.
The Unbearable Stench of Trump’s B.S.
This is an article in the Washington Post by Fareed Zakaria. Zakaria is a very knowledgeable journalist on world affairs. His book ‘The Post-American World’ is an excellent world perspective on economic forces during the last century that have impacted the US.
Zakaria is host to CNN’s weekly ‘Fareed Zakaria GPS’ (always worth watching) and writes a column for The Washington Post. (Derived from Fareed Zakaria <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fareed_Zakaria>).
“…’bullshit is a greater enemy of truth than lies are.’
We see the consequences. As the crazy talk continues, standard rules of fact, truth and reality have disappeared in this campaign. Donald Trump has piled such vast quantities of his trademark product into the political arena that the stench is now overwhelming and unbearable.”
On GPS Zakaria also includes Trump in reviewing the 2016 Presidential Election.
In my opinion considering Trump as ‘bullshit artist’ addresses only one facet of Trump’s behavioral disorders.
Michael Bloomberg Trashes Donald Trump
Michael Bloomberg: Truncated DNC Speech with full transcript <http://www.vox.com/2016/7/27/12302828/michael-bloomberg-dnc-speech-transcript-2016-democratic-convention>
This speech is at the DNC by Michael Bloomberg. Michael Bloomberg (born February 14, 1942) is an American business magnate, politician, and philanthropist. His net worth is estimated at US$42.7 billion, as of October 2016, ranking him as the 6th richest person in the United States and the 8th richest person in the world. (Michael Bloomberg <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Bloomberg> )
DNC speech segment: “….Throughout his career, Trump has left behind a well-documented record of bankruptcies, thousands of lawsuits, angry shareholders, and contractors who feel cheated, and disillusioned customers who feel ripped off. Trump says he wants to run the nation like he’s run his business. God help us…”
370 Economists Pen Letter Denouncing Trump’s Economic Policies
The letter, which was first published by the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, (Note: the WSJ website requires an online account to read numerous articles).
The text of the 370 Economists Letter letter is one and one-half pages listing some of Trump’s economic bullshit, followed by 8 pages of signatures.
This link to a WSJ document is available without an online subscription. http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/EconomistLetter11012016.pdf
The 370 Economists Letter starts: “We, the undersigned economists, represent a broad variety of areas of expertise and are united in our opposition to Donald Trump. We recommend that voters choose a different candidate on the following grounds:
- He degrades trust in vital public institutions that collect and disseminate information about the economy, such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics, by spreading disinformation about the integrity of their work.
- He has misled voters in states like Ohio and Michigan by asserting that the renegotiation of NAFTA or the imposition of tariffs on China would substantially increase employment in manufacturing. In fact, manufacturing’s share of employment has been declining since the 1970s and is mostly related to automation, not trade.
- He claims to champion former manufacturing workers, but has no plan to assist their transition to well-compensated service sector positions. Instead, he has diverted the policy discussion to options that ignore both the reality of technological progress and the benefits of international trade.
- He has misled the public by asserting that U.S. manufacturing has declined. The location and product composition of manufacturing has changed, but the level of output has more than doubled in the U.S. since the 1980s.
- He has falsely suggested that trade is zero-sum and that the “toughness” of negotiators primarily drives trade deficits.
- He has misled the public with false statements about trade agreements eroding national income and wealth. Although the gains have not been equally distributed—and this is an important discussion in itself—both mean income and mean wealth have risen substantially in the U.S. since the 1980s.
- He has lowered the seriousness of the national dialogue by suggesting that the elimination of the Environmental Protection Agency or the Department of Education would significantly reduce the fiscal deficit. A credible solution will require an increase in tax revenue and/or a reduction in spending on Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, or Defense.
- He claims he will eliminate the fiscal deficit, but has proposed a plan that would decrease tax revenue by $2.6 to $5.9 trillion over the next decade according to the non-partisan Tax Foundation. He claims that he will reduce the trade deficit, but has proposed a reduction in public saving that is likely to increase it.
- He uses immigration as a red herring to mislead voters about issues of economic importance, such as the stagnation of wages for households with low levels of education
The letter summary is:
“Donald Trump is a dangerous, destructive choice for the country. He misinforms the electorate, degrades trust in public institutions with conspiracy theories, and promotes willful delusion over engagement with reality. If elected, he poses a unique danger to the functioning of democratic and economic institutions, and to the prosperity of the country. For these reasons, we strongly recommend that you do not vote for Donald Trump.”
Warren Buffett Is Latest Billionaire to Excoriate Donald Trump
From <http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/02/us/politics/hillary-clinton-nebraska.html>
Warren Buffett is periodically the richest man in the world. Also, Buffett is a notable philanthropist, having pledged to give away 99 percent of his fortune to philanthropic causes, primarily via the Gates Foundation. (Warren Buffett <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_Buffett> )
From the article: “Mr. Buffett, known to investors as the Sage of Omaha, said a monkey throwing darts at the stock pages in 1995, when Mr. Trump first offered stock in his Atlantic City hotels, would have come out far ahead of anyone who listened to Mr. Trump’s “siren song” and invested in his company that lost money year over year.”
Regarding Trump’s refusal to release his tax returns:
“You’re only afraid if you’ve got something to be afraid about,” Buffett said at a rally for Clinton on Aug. 1, 2016. “He’s not afraid because of the IRS. He’s afraid because of you.”
Thomas Friedman
Friedman currently writes a weekly column for The New York Times. Friedman has written extensively on foreign affairs, global trade, the Middle East, globalization, and environmental issues. From <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Friedman>
Two articles are from Thomas Friedman
Donald Trump, Alien to All That’s Great
“It’s taken me a while to put my finger on exactly what political label best describes Donald Trump… Donald Trump is a ‘legal alien’… — someone born in America but whose values are completely alien to all that has made this country great.”
Donald Trump Voters, Just Hear Me Out
“Trump is not only a flawed politician, he’s an indecent human being.”
Then Friedman provides the observation.
“But there is an even more important reason Trump supporters, particularly less-educated white males, should be wary of his bluster: His policies won’t help them.”
STATEMENT BY GOV. BILL WELD REGARDING THE FINAL WEEKS OF THIS ELECTION
<https://www.johnsonweld.com/statement_by_gov_bill_weld_regarding_the_final_weeks_election>
Vice-presidential nominee Bill Weld of Gary Johnson Libertarian Party condemns Trump for President,
“In the final days of this very close race, every citizen must be aware of the power and responsibility of each individual vote. This is not the time to cast a jocular or feel-good vote for a man whom you may have briefly found entertaining. Donald Trump should not, cannot, and must not be elected President of the United States.”
Kochs reject push to meet with Trump
Political activities of the Koch brothers
“..financial and political influence of Charles G. and David H. Koch on United States politics. This influence is seen both directly and indirectly via various political and public policy organizations supported by the Koch brothers.
…The brothers have made significant financial contributions to libertarian and conservative think tanks and campaigns. Their network of groups pledging to spend $889 million from 2009-2016 and its infrastructure has been said (by Politico) to rival “that of the Republican National Committee.”[5] They actively fund and support organizations that contribute significantly to Republican candidates, and in particular that lobby against efforts to expand government’s role in health care and combat global warming. By 2010, they had donated more than $100 million to dozens of free-market and advocacy organizations.”From <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_activities_of_the_Koch_brothers>
From <http://www.politico.com/story/2016/07/kochs-donald-trump-226451>
“Trump donors have been pushing the billionaire brothers to reconsider their lack of support for the GOP nominee.
Koch and his brother David Koch, who helm an influential network of advocacy groups and major conservative donors, have been sharply critical of Trump’s rhetoric and policy stances and have indicated they do not intend to support his campaign.”
I take this this statement at it’s face value. However, I can see how this rebuke by the Koch brothers could be interpreted as plus for Trump. It appears the Trump campaign was seeking Koch support.
Meg Whitman, Calling Donald Trump a ‘Demagogue,’ Will Support Hillary Clinton for President
Meg Whitman (born August 4, 1956) is an American business executive and political activist and donor. Whitman is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of Hewlett Packard Enterprise, as well as the Chairwoman of HP Inc. From <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meg_Whitman>
From <http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/03/us/politics/meg-whitman-hillary-clinton.html>
“Using remarkably blunt language, she argued that the election of Mr. Trump, whom she called “a dishonest demagogue,” could lead the country “on a very dangerous journey.” She noted that democracies had seldom lasted longer than a few hundred years and warned that those who say that “it can’t happen here” are being naïve.”
“…Mussolini Ms. Whitman also said she “absolutely” stood by her comments at a private gathering of Republican donors this year comparing Mr. Trump to Hitler and, explaining that dictators often come to office through democratic means.”
“…Ms. Whitman was a leading fund-raiser for Mr. Romney’s 2008 presidential campaign and was a chairwoman of Gov. Chris Christie’s presidential finance team this year. But after Mr. Christie withdrew from the campaign and endorsed Mr. Trump, Ms. Whitman excoriated the New Jersey governor for what she said was an “astonishing display of political opportunism.”
DONALD TRUMP’S GHOSTWRITER TELLS ALL
From <http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/07/25/donald-trumps-ghostwriter-tells-all>
This is a New Yorker Magazine article, consequently it is rather wordy. It is by Tony Schwartz the ghostwriter for Trump’s ‘The Art of the Deal’.
““The Art of the Deal” made America see Trump as a charmer with an unfailing knack for business. Tony Schwartz helped create that myth—and regrets it.”
“If he [Schwartz] were writing “The Art of the Deal” today, Schwartz said, it would be a very different book with a very different title. Asked what he would call it, he answered, “The Sociopath.””
“Lying is second nature to him,” Schwartz said. “More than anyone else I have ever met, Trump has the ability to convince himself that whatever he is saying at any given moment is true, or sort of true, or at least ought to be true.” Often, Schwartz said, the lies that Trump told him were about money—“how much he had paid for something, or what a building he owned was worth, or how much one of his casinos was earning when it was actually on its way to bankruptcy.”
Real Time with Bill Maher: Trump’s Comfortably Dumb
Bill Maher (January 20, 1956) is an American comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, actor, media critic, and television host. Sam Harris
Sam Harris is one of my favorite authors, commentators and atheists.
“Sam Harris <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Harris> (born April 9, 1967) is an American author, philosopher, and neuroscientist. He is the co-founder and chief executive of Project Reason, a non-profit organization that promotes science and secularism, and host of the podcast Waking Up with Sam Harris. His book The End of Faith (2004), a critique of organized religion..”.
Harris has political positions that cover the right to left political spectrum. Many of his political positions are right of center. Conservatives would likely agree with his podcasts on self-defense and guns rights, the Islamic terrorist threat, racism and violence, political correctness, and military torture.
I have selected a couple of Harris’s podcasts on Trump.

“…I’ll just say that those of you who are mystified that I could forgive Clinton her obvious lie and other indiscretions just don’t understand what a dangerous imbecile I think Trump is. A child in a man’s body. He is a malignantly selfish, ignorant and petty person, and a tyrant in the making….if you are supporting the guy because he will, ‘shake things up’, I think you’re just playing chicken with human history. And there’s no one in the other car. It is absolutely astonishing to me that this guy is a candidate for the presidency..”
Trump in Exile
From <https://www.samharris.org/blog/item/trump-in-exile2>
This October 13, 2016 ‘YouTube podcast’ was made prior to the new Comey instigated email notification on Friday, October 28.
“But hatred for both Clintons is now so blinding as to render Trump’s far more dangerous flaws imperceptible to millions of Americans. This is deeply disconcerting. Ask yourself, How would Trump appear if he were a malicious bully? The answer: Exactly as he does now. The man lies about everything, and yet he can’t even pretend to be a good person for five minutes at a stretch. How would Trump sound if he knew nothing about world affairs? One need only hear him speak to know. The truth is that Trump couldn’t have displayed his flaws more clearly during this campaign had his goal been to humiliate himself. And yet this hasn’t mattered to nearly half the electorate.”

Why Donald Trump Should Not Be President
From The New York Times <http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/26/opinion/why-donald-trump-should-not-be-president.html>
This opinion of the New York Times Editorial Board is an articulate statement describing a range of reasons Trump should not be president. IMHO, concise and well worth the time to read.
“Donald Trump is a man who dwells, in bigotry, bluster and false promises.
… From that moment of combustion, it became clear that Mr. Trump’s views were matters of dangerous impulse and cynical pandering rather than thoughtful politics. Yet he has attracted throngs of Americans who ascribe higher purpose to him than he has demonstrated in a freewheeling campaign marked by bursts of false and outrageous allegations, personal insults, xenophobic nationalism, unapologetic sexism and positions that shift according to his audience and his whims.”
The 2016 US Presidential
The shocking phenomena of this presidential election is both that Trump has a very significant following, and that Hillary is so unpopular.
Several years ago, when Trump was hinting at running for president, I knew a lot less about him. I knew of The Apprentice, Trump Towers, and The Donald was rich, and was somehow associated with the Birther Movement.
The more I watched and learned about Trump the more I disliked him. Subsequently, throughout this presidential campaign I figured others too would see it that way. So, I considered Trump to be on the verge of completely losing a following.
But, now, within weeks of the election, the mere 5% or so, lead Trump has over Hillary is mind boggling and very troubling. I don’t think the polls are wrong. The troubling facts are that there are so many people who support Trump, and so many democrats who dislike Hillary.
The remainder of this essay is my attempt to understand why Trump is overly popular, and Hillary overly unpopular.
The associated links, ‘Trump’ and ‘Hillary’, are to essays that outline the problems with Trump and defenses of Hillary. Those essays consist primarily of links to news sources. For each news link I provide a synopsis and an opinion.

Distrust of the Establishment
We are POLARIZED – Again
The US was polarized in the 70s and we are again polarized in the 2010’s.
What is new is the flipped polarity for me. I, as an older democrat am the defending the establishment. Becoming older and transitioning into the establishment is not a surprise. However, defending the establishment against a bunch of old conservative, white, male, Tea Party types is a surprise.
Antidisestablishmentarianism
The term antidisestablishmentarianism is a word that has something to do with the Church of England…blah, blah…. It is also is a word I have liked ever since it was popularly reused in the 70s, to refer to ‘any opposition to those who oppose the establishment, whether the government, in whole or part, or the established society.[1]‘ (Wikipedia). This is a pretty cool word to analyze.
First you have ‘establishment’. Well, that would be in the 70s and today; Wall Street, Corporations, the government, the media and apparently today, the Democratic Party.
Next outward from ‘establishment’ are the paired prefix and suffix of ‘anti’, and ‘arian’. Creating ‘disestablishmentarian’, which is the individual against the establishment. In the 70s I thought this was me. Today it seems to be the Cliven Bundy, Timothy McVeigh, Sheriff Clarke, Trumps, etc make up this category.
Next outward from ‘disestablishmentarian’ are the prefix ‘dis’, and suffix ‘ism’. Creating ‘antidisestablishmentarianism’, which is the reactionaries defending the establishment. In the 70s the ‘antidisestablishmentarianism’ was the conservatives. Now the reactionaries are some sort of conspiracy consisting of the FBI, Clintons, Democratic National Committee, and the mainstream media.
